Global public procurement expenditure is estimated at US$ 13 billion per annum, the bulk of which is attributed to infrastructure investment where integrity gaps can cause severe consequences. The IMF calculates that on average 30% of infrastructure investment globally is lost through mismanagement, inefficiency and corruption rising to over 50% in low-income countries.
The impact of improving transparency and accountability is clear from the work of CoST members working with local and national government departments. CoST Thailand saved the Ministry of Finance $360 million; CoST Bogota’s platform published data on and CoST Uganda’s work led to an increase in disclosure from 33% to 83% in one year in the Ministry of Education.
We will be joined by Petter Matthews, our Executive Director and Hamish Goldie-Scot, our Technical Adviser as well as Majed El-Bayya, Lead Procurement Specialist, EFI Governance; Adenike Sherifat Oyeyiola, Global Practice Manager, EFI Governance GP and Arturo Herrera, Global Director, EFI Governance GP all from the World Bank. During these 90 minutes, we’ll help you build the capacity and confidence to put infrastructure transparency, participation, and accountability awareness into practice.
