Belitung takes key step towards greater transparency in infrastructure

Today marked an exciting milestone for Belitung, Indonesia, as the Regent officially signed a commitment letter to begin implementing the CoST approach for the first time.

Belitung joined CoST in 2024, signalling its intention to strengthen transparency and accountability in public infrastructure. However, due to several changes in local government leadership over the last year, implementation had yet to begin. The signing today reaffirmed that commitment, demonstrating strong collaboration between government and civil society to deliver better, more open infrastructure for the people of Belitung.

As part of the visit, representatives from West Lombok which has made significant progress in improving infrastructure quality since joining CoST in 2019 – shared their experience of using the CoST approach to improve the quality and integrity of local infrastructure. Their journey offered valuable lessons on how peer learning between regions can inspire practical, locally relevant change. To complement this, the CoST International Secretariat will provide technical guidance and capacity building to support Belitung as it moves towards full implementation.
