CoST Welcomes Sokoto State in Nigeria as its newest member

Today, October 1st 2026 on Nigeria’s Independence Day, Sokoto State has officially joined CoST, strengthening the growing commitment to infrastructure transparency and accountability across Nigeria.

As the newest member of the global CoST network, Sokoto joins governments and partners around the world working to improve infrastructure governance through greater transparency, participation, and accountability.

Launching the initiative, the State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir, said:

“Ultimately, the success of government is not measured by the number of projects announced but by the quality of projects delivered, the transparency of processes followed, and the positive impact on the lives of citizens […] Through CoST, we are taking another bold step towards building a Sokoto State where public resources are managed responsibly, infrastructure serves the needs of the people, and governance remains transparent, accountable, and inclusive.”

He charged the newly inaugurated Multi-Stakeholder Group, bringing together representatives from government, civil society, and the private sector to guide implementation of CoST’s approach in Sokoto, to remain focused, innovative and committed to openness, integrity and professionalism.

Sokoto becomes the latest Nigerian state to join the CoST network, contributing to growing momentum for greater infrastructure transparency across the country.

Welcoming Sokoto to the initiative, CoST Executive Director Petter Matthews said:

“We are delighted to welcome Sokoto State to the CoST community. Infrastructure transparency is fundamental to improving public investment, strengthening accountability, and ensuring infrastructure delivers lasting benefits for communities. We look forward to working together to support these ambitions.”
